Safety Tips

Miscellaneous Tips for Safety Around Your Home:
- Have burners and boilers serviced annually
- Clean heat ducts and cold air returns
- Inspect and sweep chimneys
- Remove dust and dirt from electrical heating elements
- Wood stoves and pipes should be cleaned and inspected for wear and tear
- Test all smoke detectors and replace old batteries
- Make sure you have adequate smoke detectors installed throughout your home
- Inspect all appliances for wire damage
- Make sure no electrical outlet is overloaded
- Place all medicines and cleaning products away from children and pets
- Store any flammable materials such as gasoline or propane in safety containers away from the home
- Do not use gasoline or other flammables inside the house
- During winter months, turn off valves and drain pipes for outside faucets to avoid freezing
- Don’t leave cooking unattended
- Don’t use the oven to heat the house
- Don’t leave burning candles unattended
- Read and follow safety instructions for any portable heaters
- Do not place portable heaters closer than 3 feet to beds or other objects
