Facilities Maintenance Technician

We currently have an opening for a Facilities Maintenance Technician whose main responsibilities will involve maintaining the operation and appearance of our buildings and grounds at our office in old city Philadelphia. This is a full time position with a Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM schedule, with the occasional need for overtime, including weekends.


The Essential Duties of this position include:

  • Routine maintenance and/or repairs on the facility and equipment to include the following: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, repair drywall, ceiling tiles, interior and exterior painting, lock repair, roof repair, and replace such items as light bulbs, ballasts, exit lights, overhead lights, exterior lights, parking lot lights, fluorescent lights, and chandeliers
  • Take direction from and report maintenance and safety issues directly to the Facilities Manager
  • Move furniture and provide assistance with set-up for meetings and events
  • Maintain maintenance areas and ensure building(s) and mechanical rooms are neat and organized
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of service-providing vendors and contractors
  • Assist with maintaining inventory of maintenance, building, and office supplies; provide other departments with supply deliveries and assist with document storage
  • Keep exterior of building, sidewalks and parking lot clean of debris; operate snow blower and shovel sidewalks and parking area during snow season
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks and routine preventative maintenance inspections
  • Must be available in the event of off-hour emergencies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Hiring Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Three to five years work experience in the maintenance industry
  • Training or experience in at least one of the trades (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc
  • Ability to perform carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and other types of facility repairs
  • Must know how to operate basic hand tools common to general maintenance; electric drills, saws, wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, soldering torch, snow blowers, leaf blowers, etc.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Very dependable and trustworthy
  • Basic oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills a must
  • Basic computer knowledge (primarily email and work order systems)
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Must have patience, tact, and display enthusiasm – strong customer service skills
  • Able to handle time demands, frequent interruptions, and be adaptable to change in daily routine
  • Willing and available to work beyond regularly scheduled hours (including evenings and weekends) as required.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to stand or walk 90% throughout the day
  • Able to climb ladders and frequently ascend or descend stairs
  • Frequently carry or move objects 20- 50 lbs
  • Must be able to push and pull objects up to 250 lbs. in weight
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting and lifting objects
  • Ability to hold, seize, grasp or turn while working with hands and hand tools
  • The work involves indoor and outdoor activities with exposure to seasonal weather and the associated temperature fluctuations
